Huh I guess purple egg sucking leeches are popular for steelhead and my hubby has used them to good effect for bass. Yup gonna get some purple!

Purple is not a common colour on UK trout or sea-trout flies, that was one of the reasons
it caught my eye when I read Turton's list. Blue and claret for sea-trout is much more common
and I wonder if the fish are really that discriminating among those colours.
It may be that all three, purple, blue and claret, are all good candidates due to the relative
closeness of their hues.
There is a nice little experiment for someone, three identical styled flies except for
three variations in colour.

Besides numerous purple steelhead flies, I have fished a #16 Snipe & Purple for a number of years and my parachute dry fly box contains Carlson's Purple Haze, an excellent fly.
Another purple from the past that I fish, Moorehen & Purple
The thorax is dubbed silk.

Y'all these flies are awesome. You know I love purple already from the Snipe and Purple. These are incredible. The silk looks wet. Did you get it wet, or did you put varnish on it, or what, if I may ask? Also that iridescence of the hackle was captured beautifully. I have a hard time trying to take pics of these small flies. I am going to have to get some different backgrounds too.....LOL.

Nothing done with the body except silk thread-not wet and no varnish except for one touch on the head to keep it together for fishing.

Nice. That purple looks a different purple than the last two spools remaining in by box, it looks glossy too... I especially like moorhen and the touch dubbed body would work well with the moorhen too i think....
Purple has seemingly worked well for me at autumn and also on dull days/overcast up in the mountains, where fish are keeping an eye out for anything getting blown about (terrestrial wise /true fly etc) , good during the needle fly too..
