Hank - In this case Vicki is using "GP" as shorthand for Golden Pheasant. The golden colored feathers are from the crest on the head of the Golden Pheasant.

They're gorgeous. You're really taking advantage of those beautiful woven bodies aren't you?

I really need to get some longer winging materials.

Ok Vicki, later today, i hope.....you'll see one way to deal with long winging material. The stuff is called "Just Pretending", and it comes, well, i have it in bout a dozen colors. You can buy it at a Dollar Store during Holloween time. You won't find it except for that time of year.............it's those things kids wear in their hair to make it look psychadelic.......a crap load of fake sparkle hair all woven into a head band.....one buck per color.....has a lot of color to it and it's just stiff enough to be manageable for winging. i used orange on the bottom, and then two really long rooster tail feathers.....(basically schllapen), one olive, one yellow, then more of the fake hair stuff in a golden/silver color.
That crest on top is from a certain kinna Cockatoo.....i forget what kind right now.
Veiling the bead (on top), is two yellow and one pink CDC feather(s), and (on bottom) is two olive and one green.
The tail is two spey hackle feathers.....orange and a kinna yellow/green, or Hot chartruese(sp?lol)..........the butt is both Peacock herl and green/yellow sparkle dubbing.....Ice Dubb basically.
The body is in two halfs of Polar Chenille.....gold and olive.....then there's a bunch of green Whiting Bird Fur.....spey hackle, and two dyed green Mallard feathers behind the orange dyed Grizzley. The dangling hooks are just or fun.....artsy fartsy.....it's all about how much fun you can have. That's what improvisation is alllllll about.
Naturally i painted the hook first, and touched it up afterwards where it was in the vise specially. Oh, those little cheek feathers are from the same saddle as that outside/final collar. Head and eye are standard proceedure. That's the antique violin string gut again. By the time i get a pic up.....that 15 minute edit limitation will have expired.....just keep scrollin'. ;)

That dollar store stuff sounds exactly like some I picked up last year. I wasn't sure what I was gonna use it for but must have had some sort of premonition  I know I've got some in purple, pink and aqua. I was thinking of putting it in some pike flies. I'll be waiting.

Sounds like the same stuff.....i also use it in Pike flies. It's great for that. Misa has taken the pics.....but i won't have them on my hard drive til later on......sometime this eve. or tonight, i'll get it up. You just never know what you'll find in a dollar store or some other unlikely place. Check out those computer dusters they sell in there. Those things make great streamer wings. Just picture a Micky Fin made with that stuff in your mind. :D Anway, i gotta run errands now. Back later..... ;)

Jeeze.....i run all these errands, get back home and while i'm putting the groceries away, i realize our monthly NAFF meeting starts in 10 minutes. So i shoot back to town for that.....and then i leave the meeting a bit early (after the program), since i didn't buy any raffle tickets, so i didn't have to wait around to see if i won anything.
i be busier than a one legged man in an ass kickin' contest. Well.....here's three angles of the fly i did last night. At some point i'll prolly ask Mark to delete two of the pics. ;)
Sure is a dang good thing the local Chile's resturant saves me all their Patron Tequilla bottle corks. :D
.....i'm thinkin' i may just add another feather in front of that orange dyed Grizzley collar, and shrink the size of that head a bit............ 8-)
