Lovely fly Mark. I just sat her for the last five minutes gazing happily at this fly. I love the bead, but find my focus drawn to the forward body and especially the slender elegance of the head and gut eye. Lovely.
If anyone would know smooth, it would be a jazz musician!

Can't wait!

Ray, above Bor=Bro.....
Here's a classic example of a screw-up fixed (more or less,

).....i had started ribbing and the dang this broke on me.....so, i re-tyed up front, and X'd it down and back.....the body is MoHair, and i had planed to pick it out, a LOT. But, "best layed plans".....or is that laid?

Don't forget to take somma these names i come up with, with a grain of salt.......i usually just go with the first thing that comes to mind.....because i really don't like havin' to even name a fly nessessarily.....but anyway. Like a youngster.....doesn't just, "hey kid" work ok?

in the music, somma the hippest **** you'll ever hear, is a mistake corrected.....with "spilt second timming." Gives a performance added humanity, and REALNESS.....and also affords an opprotunity to teach.....to lead by example.

"to go where no man's gone before....."
btw, this is a hook Ruard sent me.....and although you can't see it well.....the point and barb are quite nice on these hooks. i did this one without cutting off the eye.....i will cut off the eyes on the others he sent.

You aint gonna believe it............go to your local dollar store at Halloween time (they won't have it at any other time, been there the last two yrs. in a rwo at that time).....and buy what's called Just Pretending hair bands. i got it in bout 15 colors.....
It's actually 4 or 5 times longer than what you see there in the pic.........on that fly............the first snip of a section will afford you a staggered taper to the "bunch." After that, if your still dealing with the same "section".....you'll have to taper cut the ends...............but the stuff is great, and 1. buck gets you a ton. And it has sparkle already in it. It's just hair bands kids wear on Halloween............

Remember, Just Pretending.....
Now here's something just a bit more in line with the theme here.....i call it the Triple Threat Spider.......i can't even remember what feather that is for the collar...........i got so many loose feathers laying all over the place.....i can't remember if i bought it, or somebody gaveita me, or i found it, or what.....but i think it's a Peacock feather i found over at this local aveairy(sp?).....the front butt (for lack of a better term.....lol), is natural Emu.

Thanks for the tip Mark. Another "found" material. Looks like it would make some interesting material for steelhead flies.

Wow I just got in and talk about major league catching up! Looks like someone's on fire! I don't even dare to think which one I like best, they're all gorgeous and creative! I like the ones with the "mistakes" it makes me feel better. I know when I make a mistake as long as it's not something foundational and necessary I like to just make the alteration and go with it. I've actually probably learned more this way than just doing everything right plus it's a lot of fun to salvage a fly that you think you just messed up.
Sounds like a second Christmas at your house today. I love parcels in the mail! Thank you for the tools, your generosity is overwhelming. The parcel of flies will be mailed out on Thursday, as long as it's sitting here I keep throwing things in.
Oh and yes I was VERY GOOD at the fly shop. I only had a short time in there and picked up the tinsel and one small pack of hooks even though the shiny, pretty colours were calling to me!

VERY impressive Vicki............your accomplishing things, it take years and years for many people, IF, they ever do. It's called being able to see with your ears.....and hear with your eyes.
On the bandstand.....as in all aspects of life............."Anticipation" is critcal........in the music we call it, "COVER!" Thass short for cover your hole....or ALWAYS be ready, and NEVER flinch. By being able to hear with your eyes.....all you have to do is "watch" and you can anticipate much.........and of course there are very often times when your able to hear even better with your eyes closed, naturally.....so, you learn to see with your ears.......and again, the ability to anticopate, is hightened.....is accentuated. Thereby, the study of tying flies in an improvisational manor is a study in life itself. Do it every day.....and your covering your hole. You dig.......?...........on a daily basis.
"You'll never be perfect.....all you'll ever do.....is reach a certain degree of excellance." Art Blakey.
So don't worry bout mistakes.........just COVER. Learn from them.......and do what Rahsaan Roland Kirk taught us.....
"Don't let the cross cross you up. Let the cross, help you GET across. Now we all got a cross to bear. So go on and deal with it.....and then leave it along." Bright Moments!
"ONE TON, and it aint gonna get no lighter."
