Ha, thanks guys--the upside of the "twist" is it really helps you keep your tying bench tidy.

It would be interesting to know if these particular flies got picked up as emergers--the "slate" of the starling maybe is the right color, but perhaps a bit of flash, like a few strands of Antron in the thorax, would make for a better trigger.

Another thing I wanted to try: instead of peacock herl, using GP tail fibers to wind with the hackle in the abdomen:


On a #14, you can get close to Jim Slattery's great "Pop-top" flymphs, and kinda/sorta do the sulphur/shuck thing.

Of course, you can go up a size (these are TMC 200r's) and make a big ol' Bivisible (or maybe more precisely, a version of Aaron's great cream/ginger Palmer )


At any rate, I'm not sure a hackled abdomen gets you anywhere you otherwise wouldn't get to, but at least you can be assured you used enough club...

I was thinking it looks quite the bumble, though my photography set-up makes everything look a little wild-and-woollier than it appears in-hand. (At any rate, I put enough snowshoe hare into my Tups mixture I probably couldn't sink it if I tried. )

I'm loving watching these things just continue to evolve. Nice work all around.

Actually, I was looking to use some of the materials Bill (tie2fish) was kind enough to send me--that's sulphur-dyed peacock in the thorax, which definitely has possibilities (though I can't for the life of me figure out how to tie an actual, you know, sulphur with it yet. ) The real treat, though, was the cake of Bill's wax--touch-dubbing really was a revelation. I can't imagine living without it now, which might set up that Breaking Bad scenario we were discussing on previous thread.

Jon - is this two different flies, or the same fly from two angles? The bottom one is my favorite. Gorgeous!

Jon - I just saw your post about the "Fibonacci Flymphs". Wow!!! Very impressive.
