Here's a fly i did maybe a month ago.....?.....maybe less. i purposefully did not fix the splits in these JC nails, as i wanted the whole fly to have that washed out old corn stalks after harvest look.....i also colored the nails, just for effect. This is a thankxgiving type of fly.....for properity and the stars.....and you know how "old" they are.

Hook: Alex Hayes, painted orange and yellow
Thread: Danville 6/0 Primrose
Tail: JC nails painted
Butt hackle: Peacock feather which is actually quite brown & black, not black and white
Butt: brown Ostrich herl
Bead: is wooden
Body: Polar Chennile, golden/olive
Rib: a flashy redish/gold braid.....probably UTC.....?.....maybe Kreinik.....i'd have to go hunt it up, lol
Wing: overwing, JC nails painted with brown Ostrich herl: underwing, married olive and orange Goose shoulder
Throat/Spey hackle: JC nails & claret Rhea
Collar: first feather is dyed yellow B.E.P., second feather is orange saddle hackle
Head: dyed yellow/gold
Eye: antique violin string gut dyed orange

I like it! The bead really compliments the jc and I like the colouring job you did. It does remind me of autumn and the smell of the ragged leaves with the sun shining on them. It's my favourite time of year but I can wait for it until September. Right now trout season is getting ready to open!

I like it too. It definitely brings to mind the end of the growing season -- the time of year when the fish start to fatten up for the winter and become less wary in the process. The bead sort of looks like a ripe gourd of some kind.

Yeah, it's half thankxgiving/half halloween. And that bead does look like a qourd of some kind/or a melon. Glad ya'll like it. i'm so frickin' busy.....i may not be able to post many more pics until after we get home from this next trip to Oaklahoma and Texas..........we'll see. My puter is working fine again, but not wirelessly.........so i have to get that addressed as well. For now i'm stuck in the office with the wire/cable........and Misa is wireless in the kitchen.

Mark, another beautiful assembly with great harmony and a very distinct flavor. The detail in these guys is just amazing. These last couple have come together really nicely. Thanks for posting all the pieces. I know its a lot to do, but it adds a lot to trying to understand these flies. It goes a long way in looking at the parts as options in my simple flies by comparison.

Blue Eared Pheasent.....but come to think of it......it's probably White Eared Pheasent. That would take the dye much better. It's sold by the guy who owns the Red Shed Fly Shop in Idaho, simply as Dyed Pheasent Spey Hackle.
You can google that.

i'm trying to upload a fly pic here from my side of Misako's computer and see if i can manage my way to get it done. This is a first ever try at doing that. So let's see how it goes.

Hook: i can't remember.....some ordinary blind eye
Thread: undoubtedly Danville 6/0 Primrose
Tag. something blue
Tail: Eurasian Jay
Butt: purple Ostrich herl
Body: rear is a bead as you can see.....then some dubbing blend i made up.....looks purple.....sorta.....
Rib: i'll have to go look at the fly.....looks silver in the pic
Wing: some kinna pink flashy stuff over red bucktail
Throat: Claret/Pink Rhea feather tip/dyed red Mallard feather.....actually that might be Teal
Collar: dyed purple W.E.P.
Eye: dyed red fly line backing
unless you have the fly right in front of you, this 15 minute time limit for edits is a real pain in the butt.........
the Rhea and Teal feathers drop when you take the fly out of the cork, and the over-all look is nicer that way

Mark - These last two flies are real show pieces. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the first one with the colored jungle cock eyes and brown bead. My jaw drops when I read your material list. There is probably 80 dollars worth of material in each of these flies. I imagine the hooks themselves are in the 15 to 20 dollar range, all by themselves. I admire your passion for fly tying. You hold nothing back.
