Here's a better shot of the Plumb Tuckered fly.....and i fixed the head as best i could.

i did this a week or so ago..........it's tilted back a bit to much in the pic......maybe Misa was trying to show the bead better.......who knows. It'son an Alex Hayes hook again........antique violin string gut for the eye........can't remember where i found that particular bead........somewhere on the road.

Mark - I love the fly, but for me the part that really grabs my attention is the head/gut eye. That is one of THE best heads I have ever seen. Supreme craftsmanship, right there. It is also a tribute to your patience. I know from experience, it is easy to "rush" the head and move on to the next fly. It is clear that you have taking extra time & care to finish the head so perfectly.

Thank you Ray.....but to tell you the truth.....that fly will never leave this house without one more coat on the head.....it only has 3 and it definately needs a fourth.....then it should be ok.

With all that's going on with Mark's very complicated flies, it is easy to overlook the "small stuff", such as the craftsmanship in the head area that Ray points out. This same attention to detail shows up in the tags and butts as well, and further illustrates the fact that although they may not be traditional, these flies are the product of a creative mind, bold spirit, and accomplished artisan.

Here's one i did (maybe a month ago), using feathers from a dyed Green Grizzly skin i have.....the palmered hackle in the body is from the same skin. Very often nowdays, if i'm using a sparkly dubbing that has plenty of shine/flash/whatever.....and i'm also going to palmer a hackle trough it.....i don't even bother to rib the body. Between the dubbing and hackle, you really don't need a rib. Specially if it's not going to be fished. As the rib was really just there from way bank when, to protect the hackle anway, and it's going to get burried to a dregge in the dubbing and not be seen much as well. So i just eliminate it. i guess it all depends a lot on how thick i plan to do the body and how long the fibers are in the dubbing i'm using. Don't get me wrong, i love ribbing and still do it a lot.....but not always, and that is why.
That bead is a broken section of African trade bead.....they were a form of money back in the day.
