Thankx Bill, i'm still pissed off at how this fly came out.............and actually i don't find Guinea hard to work with usually, but this particular time it was a bitch. i would actually fish this fly, as it's not really much in terms of............well.
Course since we have no Salmon or Steelhead round here............ Would prolly take a Striper or BIG Brown during the Shad kill though.

Btw Bill, obviously the answer to your primary question, was yes.

Here's the fly from the other night that i was tellin' you was fun in terms of palmering a hackle through Polar Chennile.........really was fun.

i haven't got the last coat on the No Room For Squares fly yet. And i have another fly to post first anyway..........keep your ears and eyes peeled.

Mark - What material did you use to form the tag on this fly? You need to show me how you do this, the next time we get together. That is seriously impressive.

I love how the blue in the bead is mirrored in the collar hackle and head of the fly. Lovely!

The tag is Uni Gold Flat Braid 8 ply Small. The collar hackle is off a dyed Silver Laced Wyendott saddle (rooster) i got from Jim S. The rest is just the ole' Bic pen deal. That eye is fly line backing.....just SUCKX up the dye.
Btw, when i do a tag.....i ALWAYS tye in on the bottom at the extreme rear.....and then take the thread in touching turns, over the length which i have placed underneath, that will be exactly the same as the length of the tag.....usually point of barb, to point of hook. That way the tag stays the same diameter from rear to front, with the first turn on bare shank to from a little taper. If i use mylar, i'll tye in at the front (directly above point of hook), and go down and back.
When doin' this, very often afterwards, a thread base will have to be "raised" up to be even with the tag, so that there are no problems with mounting your tail. And i do not want that thread base to go any further forward than nessessary to serve that purpose. After the tail is mounted, i will either use Ostrich or Peacock herl or dubbing to form a butt, most of the time. In this case it was yellow Haretron.....smaller behind the bead, and larger in front because of the size of the hole in the bead. In the case of using this type of bead......i am unable to clue it. So the only way to secure it well enough, is to use the tail butts and dubbing to pack it in, as tight as i can get it. Which is why Ostrich or Peacock herl is not goin' to surfice as butt materials in a case like this.

This fly just happened to get photographed while i was at Walmart, so........(as is normal, i position and tweek [primp] the fly before shotting begins), i was not able to line the wing up straight, and "set-it" so that the tail showed properly. The tail is actually really cool.........a combination of orange dyed bucktail and CP Pheasant crest. But anyway........... .............these things happen, and i am not about to ask Misa to shoot it again. She does so much already. This was the last big ass huge gold hook of it's kind that i had.............so i used it. Two different dubbing brushes make up the body. The wing is Tragopan coverts.....cheeks and topping are Peacock.....and that glob in the front is some sorta synthetic chennile. Wish you could see the tail better.....but no biggie. .....click the pix.....

Trailor hooks: both are Gamakatsu. different Octapus models, one blue, one hot pink, the dressed hook is just some pink dubbing and a dyed blue Silver Wyendott hen feather, the pink glob at the eye of the pink hook is some very old Loon head finishing product that they gave us at a show years ago. i had a weird thing goin' on with the wire (long story, lol), i had used to connect the two trailor hooks, and this was all i could do to "solve the problem." All i could think of, that was acceptable..... Bottom line was the bead in this dressing cost me $10. & i just really wanted to make this fly happen, somehow.

Tail: dyed hot pink Mallard & blue rooster hackle
Butt: florescent light green Ostrich herl
Bead: from Ronn Lucas Sr.
Body: some kinna blue/purple sparkle dubbing
Rib: Montana Fly florescent light green Lucent Chenille
Throat/Spey hackle: florescent light green Rhea
Wing: purple Rhea
Collars: dyed pink rooster saddle & dyed blue Silver Laced Wyendott Rooster saddle
Head & Eye: dyed with Bic pens.....the eye is fly line backing

The butt is a silver bead.....and the fly has been tipped back (in the cork), quite a bit, to expose the body for the pic. .....click the pic.....

This one is what I really like of the last set of flies posted. Very classy.

The hackle palmered through the Polar Chenille does indeed produce an impressive result, but for me, the back end of that fly is the best part. Tag/tail(s)/butt/bead = WOW!
